This Finnish Glögg recipe was adapted from my grandmothers recipe files. I added Keemun tea, which is known for its winey, orchid like notes. It is the best thing I can think of drinking on a cold, winter night.
Time: 30 minutes
You will need:
2 cups steeped black tea, preferably a breakfast style or Keemun
1 750 ml bottle of red wine
1 cup dried cherries
1 orange sliced into rounds
1 cup raw almonds
1 tablespoons of green cardamom pods
½ cup brown sugar
1 750 ml bottle port
1 cup of cognac, aquavit or vodka
1. In a heavy saucepan placed on medium low heat, stir together the tea, red wine, dried cherries, orange, almonds, cloves, cardamom pods and brown sugar. Gently warm until the sugar is well dissolved. Add the port and cognac. Stir well and continue to heat until thoroughly warmed.
2. Ladle into mugs garnished with cinnamon sticks and orange slices.
